To mark the fifth anniversary of the museum, the summer show at the Collection Lambert, simply entitled ‘5 ans’ (‘5 years’), presents masterpieces from the collection. It harks back to the series of exhibitions entitled ‘Rendez-vous’ aimed at presenting Yvon Lambert’s collection in four parts. For the museum’s fifth anniversary, visitors will be able to (re)discover some of the finest works in the collection which today boasts over 1,000 pieces, as well as some that have never before been shown to the public.
The exhibition looks in parallel at present-day art and works from the 60s and 70s, encouraging dialogue between different artistic currents. Acquisitions from the 1970s (minimalist and conceptual works) are paired with recent works by young artists who have paid quirky and sometimes over-the-top tributes to other artists (for example Jonathan Monk and Jonathan Horowitz). It is a thematic show that aims not to provide a historical overview but to suggest subjective links by which young French and foreign artists have appropriated masterworks from the past.
Last but by no means least, this anniversary show includes reminders of previous landmark exhibitions at the museum. ‘Artists' Collections’ (2001), for instance, is recalled via sound pieces by Louise Lawler, Roni Horn, and Louise Bourgeois. Major works from the 2004 show on children’s art entitled ‘À fripon, Fripon et demi, pour une école buissonnière’, such as Jonathan Horowitz’s video installation, are presented once more. The wall drawing made by Sol LeWitt for the monographic exhibition of his photographs in 2004 is presented alongside Kimsooja’s botaris. Visitors will also be delighted to find references to Christian Marclay along the way.
